“Starting with themes of snow and ice, the enigmatic snow leopard, Enlarging on themes from our AW12 collection which explored leather and shearling aviator hats collars of the first female aviators, finding a way to translate them into knitted garments, creating a garment that ignites the wearing the animal prints to protect animals rather than annihilate them. This philosophy fit perfectly with the plight of the beautiful snow leopards- literally endangered by their own beauty.
The showpiece is snow glazed leopard print, voyaging across the ice with giant over sized pieces inspired from the current collection, oversized to emphasise the massive problem we face and eternity scarves all circles to reflect the cyclical nature of life, that we are all related to each other and if we kill off other species we are killing off a piece of ourselves.
WWF stands as a voice for the voiceless, we wanted to shout out with you.” - The North Circular
Not only warm and comforting, We are the leopard who must voyage to change our spots reminds us that we all need layers of support and protection from all angles, no matter how adaptable the living planet appears to be. The North Circular have taken their unique solid knitted style inspired by female pilots, such as Amelia Earhart, and conceived their first print for We are the leopard who must voyage to change our spots. An essential aspect of their philosophy is encouraging lively discussions over rich tea biscuits while creating the knitwear, so one can imagine how the introduction of the leopard pattern spurred lots of creative discussion around wildlife and the need for adaptability to endure. Just as the cuddly fashion brand reinvent their bold design, so too does the leopard to survive in the ever-changing climate. A poignant issue realised through the expert hand knitting talents of “grannies, girls. …and a few strong men”.
