What the seagrass says is a specially commissioned limited-edition print by internationally renowned artist Heather Phillipson in support of the Art For Your World campaign. Curated and produced by Artwise in support of WWF, the campaign aims to mobilise and unite the art world in the fight against the climate crisis. The funds raised by Art For Your World will be used to support key areas of WWF’s work that contribute to combatting dangerous climate change, such as: halting deforestation; supporting communities; restoring trees and forests; replanting seagrass meadows; protecting endangered species; and promoting sustainable lifestyles.

What the seagrass says, by Heather Phillipson, is made from a drawing of seahorses on discarded cardboard. The replanting of seagrass meadows around the UK is one of the WWF's key projects being supported by Art For Your World. Seagrass meadows are one of the world's most productive ecosystems, providing shelter and feeding ground for many species of endangered wildlife, including seahorses; they also play a key role in regulating our climate. Heather Phillipson's reuse of waste packaging, with its casual drawn marks, it's 'FRAGILE' graphic, and its directive to HANDLE WITH CARE, smartly inverts the neglected and abandoned and invites us to reconsider what's valuable.
Each print has been lovingly hand-finished to echo the artist's original work, right down to the intentional creases. The materials have been carefully chosen to maximise sustainability where possible including the use of water-based inks and 4.5mm thick E flute made from recycled materials. ABOUT THE ARTIST
Heather Phillipson's art practice spans video, sculpture, web projects, music and drawing and she is also an award-winning poet who has published five volumes of poetry. Current major commissions of Phillipson's can be seen in London with RUPTURE NO 1: blowtorching the bitten peach, her vast, audiovisual and sculptural commission for the Duveen Galleries at Tate Britain, (until January 2022) and THE END, her winning commission for the Fourth Plinth, Trafalgar Square, is up until July 2022.
