“'Patterns of Desire' cultivates the random, playfulness, the dream and the subconscious. It plays with the function of the object, subversively questioning our ways of thinking and the world we inhabit.” - Nina Saunders

Camouflaged among the summer flowers in Hyde Park, Nina Saunders’ augmented sofa sat nestled in the summer grass. A large scoop has been taken out of one side giving the impression that the settee is midway through morphing. Suddenly a contemplative woman appears gently grazing a large sphere and, despite the multitude of summer activity, she is intensely focused on softly guiding her ball.  As she approaches the sofa, ‘Patterns of Desire’ reveals itself as a 3-part interactive sculpture when she slots the ball into the furniture’s side, completing the transformation, and tenderly nestles atop to fall asleep.  This arresting and meditative artwork comprises sofa, rolling sphere and wearable trouser-suit all made using the Rose & Peony floral Sanderson print, encourages us to stop and really think about how all the natural elements of the world interlock and fit in the most surprising and wonderful ways.
