Ron Haseldon, THE DIVER: GAMES Art Project for the London 2012 Olympiad, commissioned by Art Lights London, Diespeker Wharf, London, 2012

Overview

Diver is an animated LED light installation launched by charity Art Lights London at Diespeker Wharf to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games. The project was a collaboration between artist Ron Haseldon and 600 London primary school children who participated in a series of specially conceived artist-led drawing workshops around health and sports.

The installation was unveiled by British Olympic diver Peter Waterfield and depicts a child making a splash as they dive into the water. The animation effect is created by lighting each stage of movement in the diving sequence. The artwork formed part of the GAMES art project for the London 2012 Olympiad, designed to give everyone in the UK a chance to be a part of London 2012 and inspire creativity across all forms of culture, especially among young people.
