Mark Titchner was born in 1973 in Luton, England. He attended an Art Foundation
at Hertfordshire College of Art and Design from 1991-92 before studying at Central
St Martin’s College of Art and Design in London. He was invited to take part in 2nd Moscow Biennale at the Museum of Modern Art, Moscow, the 11th Biennale of Visual Arts in Serbia, and the 59th Minute public video commission series for Times Square by Creative Time in New York. In 2009 he was commissioned by Transport for London to make a project for Gloucester Road Station as part of the Art on the Underground Series – Platform for Art.

“This version of the Madonna and Child is a lot of things; a protester, an idol, a mother protecting her vulnerable young and a most importantly a reminder. The growing consciousness of our perilous environmental situation reminds us that if we ever thought that we could damage one part of the natural world, even if it is far away from us, without harming ourselves we are very much mistaken. You can’t hate nature.” - Mark Titchner
