VS2 for Mercedes Benz World

Artwise commissioned Dutch artist Paul Veroude to create View Suspended 2, an installation featuring seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher’s F1 car stripped bare and suspended piece-by-piece on a wire. Formula One has always been renowned for closely guarding the secret inner-workings of their multi-million pound vehicles; this thrilling exhibit, however, revealed all. Each individual component is meticulously arranged, hung individually by a wire from a purpose-made frame, and not so much of a drill mark was made in the car’s original material. In fact, the care and technical precision with which Veroude took apart the racing car, meant that, if at any point desired, it could be put back together. Producing the effect a car having just exploded a fraction of a second earlier, before being frozen in time, the structure successfully combines engineering and sculpture to produce a stunning and innovative physical entity. Transformed into an art form indeed it was, the racing car displayed however remains entirely representative of modern-day Formula One technology. This breathtaking work of art is on display at the Mercedes-Benz World exhibition at Brooklands, near Weybridge, and can be seen every day by guests visiting the brand experience centre alongside the F1 exhibition.
