Art and Sacred Places
As part of the Art and Sacred Places programme in 2000, Artwise was invited to curate a project at St Peter's, Brighton, one of the major churches in the south of England. The resulting installations by Dan Coombs and Duncan Whitley brought contemporary art techniques such as assemblage and sound art into the Church context to examine the notion of spirituality in today's society. In 2004 Artwise curated Angel, a dramatic work by Rose Finn-Kelcey that was visible 24 hours a day on the facade of St Paul's Church, east London. Angel is documented by an online catalogue, which includes stunning still and moving images of it in situ, responses from the public and essays about the work. Angelwas the recipient of the ACE Trust Award for temporary commissions for Art in a Religious Context category.
